ANNABELLE - Project 4
Introduction
This project was also awesome. We had to create a Halloween
themed movie poster. I have a daughter named Annabelle who is IN LOVE with Halloween,
and one of her favorite things to do is dress up and look evil. She plays the
role so well. As most know, ANNABELLE is coincidentally an existing movie with
an evil doll named Annabelle as the main character. Last year my daughter dressed
up as an evil doll. I did her face paint, and she fell right into the role, as
usual.
I chose to continue the next film in the ANNABELLE sequel. I
named my movie ANNABELLE REMASTERED. Annabelle (my daughter) is the real-life
version of the doll.
Design Process
For this project I actually created two separate documents.
The first idea that I had was to use my daughter’s photo and place her in an
abandoned insane asylum, classroom, or orphanage. The idea just didn’t take
off. After sleeping on it, I chose to crop out just her face and her ruff to
make her the main focus of the poster. I did this by choosing the select tool, and
I masked it to bring out some of her hair. Then I used the history
brush to bring back some of the picture that didn’t come through.
I ended up going with a solid black background, and I put Annabelle
right in the center. Then I added an inverted black to white gradient in linear
form to highlight her face to make it look eviler.
I wanted Annabelle to look like she was looking over you but
directly at you. I went to perspective warp, and I moved the pins until it looked
like she was leaning towards me more.
After that I went to camera raw and I made some adjustments
to her iris and pupils, her lips, and the whites of her eyes. I adjusted the
reds and blues of her iris and pupils to make them look yellow-orange,
and I darkened the eye white. As for her lips, I added more texture and clarity,
and lowered the exposure to make her lips look real and the red brighter.
Overall, she looks like she is ready to eat you.
I used the font ITC Giovanni STD for ANNABELLE and COMING
SOON because that is the original font that ANNABELLE is in on all of the posters,
and #ANNABELLE and REMASTERED are in Baskerville Old Face because that is the other font that is paired with ITC Giovanni STD for the surrounding words.
To add texture to the background, I added a layer of red and
black tint, and I lowered the opacity.
I found a template for the credits, and the credits are in SteelTongs
font.
For the final touches, I went into camera raw, and I selected a filter from the Modern section. I also added a -11 vignette.
End Result
Conclusion
Annabelle looks exactly how I wanted her to look. She looks
like the evil little doll that she can portray when she dresses up for Halloween.
I thought she would be the perfect person to role-play the REAL-LIFE version of
ANNABELLE the creepy doll in a remastered film. I learned how to play around
with movie credits, and I used the perspective tool for the first time. I know there
are still some minor tweaks that should be made, but there is always something
to learn.
