Business Card - Project 1
Introduction
I created a mockup business card for my partner. She is going to school to be a psychologist, and she is studying human psychology, specifically. I asked my partner to name 12 adjectives that described how she wanted her business card to be perceived by her audience.
12 Adjectives:
Professional, Trustworthy, Reliable, Compassionate, Empathetic, Accepting, Motivational, Uplifting, Nice, Inspirational, Helpful, and Energetic.
I researched what colors went with these adjectives on the color wheel and the emotions they would portray to the audience. The audience will be diverse and will have experienced multiple traumas.
In the beginning, I started out with a gradient background of different shades of blue. I found that orange and blue were a better match for the design that I was trying to achieve, especially when I came across the brain.
I
chose a gradient background of orange and blue because there was a healthy mix
of blue color adjectives and adjectives that fell into the range of yellow, orange,
red, and light green.
The
font for the name, number, and email are in Arial because I wanted it to come
off as professional and easy to read. The name is in 14pt so it will stand out from the other information, and the email and phone number are in 8pt font
with less attention being brought to them.
Microsoft
Yi Baiti was chosen for psychologist with a size of 12pt font. I used the eye dropper to pick a darker red
out of the brain to help psychologist stand out more from the other black, Arial
typeface. That was the goal of the typeface change, as well.
Psychology
is the study of the human and non-human mind and behavior, so a human brain was
chosen as the symbol for the graphic. The human brain is separated by a rainbow
side which symbolizes the left brain, and the grey, black, and white side which
symbolizes the right side.
The
rainbow portion of the brain and the blue and orange background also speak for
my partner's extroverted side. She is very outgoing and is going to be an amazing
psychologist.
My end result turned out pretty decent for my first time creating a business card. Navigating Photoshop and using its tools are becoming easier each time that I create a project.
Final Product
Conclusion
I am developing new skills such as what colors to use to create my project, what typeface and sizes to use, what images to use, and how to align and space my images and works so that everything flows. I am becoming more confident in my abilities, and my end results are starting to look how I envisioned them to look a little more each time.
