Ultimate Desk - Creative Exercise 19

Introduction

As a class this week, we completed a few creative exercises. We could either work together to complete them, or we could work alone.

We watched a series of little videos that discussed creativity and whether or not it could be taught or if some people are born with it.

    So, which one is it?

According to dictionary.com Creativity is the ability to transcend traditional ideas, rules patterns, relationships, or the like, and to create meaningful new ideas, forms, methods, interpretations, etc.; originality, progressiveness, or imagination: the need for creativity in modern industry; creativity in the performing artistic.

The answer is it can be learned and taught. Most people mistake creativity for being artistic. This is a common misconception. They are not the same thing. Creativity involves problem-solving. Every day humans have to problem-solve. It is inevitable. So, if you think you are not creative, you are already one step further than you thought.

The video discussed two parts of problem-solving: relevance and novelty. Relevance is what you already do to come up with ideas for the problem. Novelty is the artistic portion.

With all of this being said, creativity is a skill. Skills can be developed, and you can get better at being creative.

The exercise I chose to write about is called: Ultimate Desk.

Ultimate desk instructs you to create a desk either visually or with words describing it. There are no limitations to creating this desk. You have 5 minutes.

Ultimate Desk:

Shelves

Cupholder

Footrest

Fan for computer

Extension for standing up

Lights

Fan for myself

Different charging ports

Compartments for wires

Built-in mouse pad

Wheels to move desk

Extension for more space

Conclusion

I always find these creative exercises to be rather interesting. I enjoy doing them more when I am amongst my professor and my classmates. Sharing ideas and collaborating seems to bring more life to everything. These exercises really do help build creative skills. The more you make it habit the better you will become, and this helps you out more than anyone because you will be happy, and you will be able to produce better work and ideas. We all want to grow and be more successful at what we do. This creative exercises can really help out If you put forth the effort.
