Introduction    

Exploring the world of graphic design has been an exhilarating adventure filled with a plethora of new knowledge, skills, and opportunities. I’m incredibly grateful for this personalized influential program that has equipped me with the tools to succeed. Throughout my journey, I have had the pleasure of filling the Photography position for the Boys and Girls Club of America – Polk County. Needless to say, I have obtained a wealth of knowledge.

    Photography is more than just shooting a “good photo” and calling it a day. Photography involves exploring your location before an event, good and adaptive lighting, filters, reflectors, camera settings, high-quality cameras, lenses, tripods, connecting with your subjects, and last but not least, effective communication with your client to understand their vision and expectations. Through my experiences at the Boys and Girls Club, I have had the opportunity to apply these principles in real-world scenarios, gaining expertise in every aspect of photography. I have established a new and trusted professional relationship, and I look forward to more opportunities that will present themselves in the future.

    This experience has opened new avenues for growth. I can now leverage my photography knowledge to enhance my graphic design work by refining composition, lighting, and color. The overflow between these two disciplines is undeniable. A deep understanding of photography is crucial for any graphic designer, as we frequently manipulate images to fit various project requirements. Clients greatly appreciate designers who possess this skill set. As designers, high-quality targeted visual communication is the main goal. If not, well, then you may need to ponder on a new career choice.  With graphic design quickly evolving and the need for visual storytelling increasing, staying updated on trends and expectations is essential to be a successful graphic designer. 

Conclusion

    This unexpected journey has given me new insight and increased my passion for the arts and visual storytelling. Opportunities have presented themselves that I never thought I would be a part of. I have grown not only as a designer but as a person as well. By combining my new photography skills with my graphic design background, I am equipped to create captivating and impactful visual stories, and I am excited to apply these skills to future projects.

Nigerian Street Buka's Logo - Project 25 Final

     Nigerian clothing and street restaurant signs are filled with vibrant and bold colors. Each region's colors vary, but many wear colorful attire at some point.      To begin my logo process, I came up with the name Nigerian Street Buka. I wanted Nigerian and street in the name so that people knew what kind of food it was, but I also wanted it to be unique so I named it Nigerian Street Buka. Buka refers to small local shops in Nigeria, and that is what my restaurant represents. I also knew that I wanted to represent music and food.      Then, I sketched 30 thumbnails, and from the 30 that I sketched, I chose 3 thumbnails. I then created 3 roughs from these thumbnails, adding more detail. Nigerian Street Buka's Brand Identity - Project 26

     Now that a Logo had been established for Nigerian Street Buka , it was time to create a Brand Identity. For this part of the assignment, we were supposed to create a Business Card , Letterhead , Envelope , and a Website Mock-up (For a cell phone screen.) for our restaurant.      I began this project by researching various brand identities and business cards. I wanted to get a feel for what was out there in the world of the restaurant industry. Anyone can come up with a generic design for their brand identity, but if you want your brand identity to speak to your customers visually and emotionally, there needs to be a great portion of brainstorming and planning: colors, shapes, typography, and more need to be taken into careful consideration.      After completing my research, I drew my artboards out for each project piece and began contemplating a few designs. Introduction      To continue with learning about what makes a successful brand identity and how to create one, this week we are to design three more touchpoints that we would consider using for our restaurant.      Now that we are in week three of Intro to Marketing and Self-Promotion , I am beginning to really understand branding and what it takes to have a successful brand. I know I still have a lot to learn, but designing a business from scratch helps teach someone how to go through the process themselves. It gives you a little taste of what it's like.
