The Love-Hate Relationship With New York City's New Logo - Design Post 6

Image
Introduction      Graphic Design is everywhere. It is on the streets, it is in your home, and it is at your place of work. Graphic Designers have a way of drawing in viewer's attention. This attention of course can be POSITIVE or unfortunately, NEGATIVE.      I was surfing the internet looking for an article to read, and I came across one that I thought would be perfect for my design post this week. In this situation, it was a tad bit negative.      The article is “ The Love-Hate Relationship With New York City’s New Logo ” written by Molly Enking .  URL: https://smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/new-york-citys-new-we-heart-nyc-campaign-has-people-riled-up-180981865/ The Love-Hate Relationship With New York City’s New Logo      New York City’s logo has just received a make-over, and most people in New York, whether it be the average Joe or professional graphic designers are not too excited about the new design. ...

I Didn't Know I Had It In Me - Creative Exercise 6

Image
Introduction      I am now in week 6 of writing blog posts. This journey has been interesting and continues to be interesting. I have made quite a bit of growth, and it has only been a small amount of time. For this week’s creative exercise I chose, I Didn’t Know I Had It In Me . This exercise is also in the book Caffeine For The Creative Mind 250 Exercises To Wake Up Your Brain by Stefan Mumaw and Wendy Lee Oldfield . I have grown to really like the exercises in this book and the creative energy that was put into making it. I Didn’t Know I Had It In Me      As I was reading through some of the exercises in the book, I was trying to decide between about 5, but when I saw this one, I knew that it was the one. The title spoke loudly and directly AT ME!      This exercise was constructed to work on generating ideas. It helps when you are stuck and you cannot think of anything else, at the moment. The exercise instructs you to l...

1 of 30 Pictures - Project 6

Image
Introduction           This project involved taking 30 pictures of a specific object of choice. We had to take pictures at different angles. I ended up taking 30-plus pictures. I took a set of 30, and then I realized that I did not want a plethora of objects in my background. I went back outside, and I took another set. I am not sure how many I took this time. I was a little more satisfied with fewer distractions in my background. 4th Street Filling Station      The object that I chose to photograph is one of my favorite hats. It is a snapback that I purchased on a vacation that my partner and I took to Cocoa Beach. There is a restaurant called 4 th Street Filling Station. They offer various vegetarian and vegan options along with dishes with meat. It is a great little spot if you like local beers and ciders. The setting is laid back. The restaurant is open, and they have a little patio outback that is fully shaded with trees. The reason i...

5 Photos Depicting 10 Rules of Composition - Project 5

Image
Introduction      Photography definitely is an art form in a whole different category. Photographers capture emotions, beauty, feelings, etc. Pictures are sometimes worth more than words. This art form speaks for itself. I am fairly new to photography. I love taking pictures on my phone, and I think I have a decent eye. What I did not know is that there are actually rules. I also did not know that pictures were graded. Like many other hobbies and professions, there are competitions for photographers. This is my journey of gaining knowledge about the rules of composition. We have to take 5 photos that cover 10 rules of composition. My Journey      My partner and I decided to go for a walk in the Park Circle B Bar Reserve. Upon our travels, I took pictures of wildlife and the landscape. I am a nature lover, and I love seeing the animals and the landscape. There is so much beauty to be seen. We thoroughly enjoyed our time out at Circle B. These are some ...

Composition - Design Post 5

Image
Introduction      Graphic Designers create works of art to grab someone's attention, for example: posters. These works also should be accessible so that viewers are able to follow along with the flow of the work and this helps when the work of art is a magazine. This is what composition is responsible for.  Fundamentals of Composition      “ Composition is the form, the whole spatial property, and structure resulting from the arrangement of graphic elements – type and images – in relation to one another and to the format, created to visually communicate” (Landa, 2022).      Two main goals of composition are creating visual interes t and clear communication . These contribute to the overall visual appeal. During the compositional process, you are rearranging and revising as you continue to create. Margins      Margins are the spaces on the top, right, bottom, and left of any page. Visually, they act as frames sur...

Like, Umm...I mean It's Like... - Creative Exercise 5

Image
Introduction      My creative exercise for this week is called “Like, Umm… I mean It’s Like…” . This exercise helps develop your creative writing skills. I also found this exercise in the book CAFFEINE FOR THE CREATIVE MIND, 250 EXERCISES TO WAKE UP YOUR BRAIN by Stefan Mumaw and Wendy Lee Oldfield .      “Like, Umm…I mean It’s Like…” is an exercise that involves picking a smell and describing it. Our sense of smell is very powerful, and it would definitely be a HUGE loss if it were gone or didn’t exist. There is one catch, though. When describing this smell, the words “like” and “as” cannot be used at all. This is where the exercise gets interesting and super creative.      I pulled up Microsoft Word on my laptop, and I began my journey. I instantly knew the smell that I was going to write about. I don’t think I have an absolute favorite smell. I love many smells, but if I had to choose one, this smell comes close to it. Like, Umm.....

ANNABELLE - Project 4

Image
Introduction      This project was also awesome. We had to create a Halloween themed movie poster. I have a daughter named Annabelle who is IN LOVE with Halloween, and one of her favorite things to do is dress up and look evil. She plays the role so well. As most know, ANNABELLE is coincidentally an existing movie with an evil doll named Annabelle as the main character. Last year my daughter dressed up as an evil doll. I did her face paint, and she fell right into the role, as usual.      I chose to continue the next film in the ANNABELLE sequel. I named my movie ANNABELLE REMASTERED . Annabelle (my daughter) is the real-life version of the doll. Design Process      For this project I actually created two separate documents. The first idea that I had was to use my daughter’s photo and place her in an abandoned insane asylum, classroom, or orphanage. The idea just didn’t take off. After sleeping on it, I chose to crop out jus...
